Meet Our Staff

All our coach's have been background checked, completed NYHS Concussion course, NYHS Fundamentals of Coaching course, First Aid/CPR Certification, trained in curriculum based programs, have a passion for sports, and experience teaching/coaching youth.
Coach/Owner Joseph Luma
  • M.S Athletic Coaching Education, West Virginia University
  • B.S Psychology, Arizona State University
  • 8+ years coaching both boy's and girl's basketball from youth to high school level
  • Arizona Substitute Teaching Certification, Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • 3 years as a Boy Scout Leader
  • Several years working with youth in social services throughout Maricopa County
Joseph grew up in Michigan playing basketball and baseball through the high school level.  In 2004, Joseph moved to Arizona to futher his education at ASU.  Joseph has a passion for helping other's accomplish their goals and believes in the values that are instilled through participation in sports.   Joseph enjoys helping youth learn the fundamentals of various sports, live a healthy lifestyle, and develop a love for sports.  Joseph has a strong sense of family values and enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
Coach Rachel Payne
  •  Certified USA Gymnastics Coach
  •  3 years of experience coaching gymnastics, Cadillac Y.M.C.A.
  •  2 years of experience coaching gymnastics/dance, Bradley Academy   of Excellence

Rachel Luma is a former competitive USA Gymnast from Northern Michigan. She was a member of the Water’s Edge Gymnastics Club where she participated in the Jr. Olympics gymnastics program for 7 years. At age 12 Rachel began exploring several different styles of dance and continued her training throughout high school by joining the dance team. Rachel moved to Phoenix in 2010 and began
coaching gymnastics for a charter school in Goodyear. She currently works as a paraprofessional for the Tolleson Elementary School District and finds great joy in working with children and young adults.
Coach Rebecca Luma

  • Extensive Classical Ballet Training (Using Cecchetti Method)
  • Strong Tap, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, and Lyrical Training
  • USA Gymnastics Trained
  • DCYE Bravo Award (4 Consecutive Years)
Rebecca received most of her gymnastics and dance training in Northern Michigan, where she was born and raised. She started as a competitive USA Gymnast then gradually shifted over to the world of dance. Rebecca was able to train with many notable instructors, such as, Jefferson Baum, Ana Coppelia Lopez, Katrina Killian, and Betty Kuhn, as well as, attend various workshops. Rebecca began teaching in Arizona under the direction of Cecilia Fisher at Maryvale Community Center. She was then able to spread her love of teaching dance and gymnastics to students of all ages by starting her own dance program at Desert West Community Center. It is her wish to continue sharing her passion of gymnastics and dance to all interested individuals.
